MZ Stageworks Blog

Charity for HSM

From a very young age my mom would hand me a cleaning rag and ask me to help her around the house. She used to say; “thems that works eats”. She said it in that funny way but I knew she was serious about learning to work and do for myself. My parents would tell me that school was my job just like they went to their job every day.  When I was old enough, I got an allowance and I learned that if I wanted things, I had to earn the money for those things. I am so grateful that my parents were strong enough to teach me that discipline. They were far from stingy, in fact they were very generous at Christmas and Birthdays, but they gave something more important than “things”. They gave me a good work ethic which allowed me to believe that I could do or be anything I wanted to.

I am a firm believer in giving back when you are blessed and I am truly blessed. I want to use MZStageworks to make a difference in kids lives and to teach kids to use their art to make a difference in the lives of others. I am very happy that our donation is going to the “Teach a Man To Fish” organization. Below you can read about the wonderful things they do.

Our Mission: is to enable schools to provide a relevant education, through enterprise, that empowers young people to succeed in work and in life.

The concept of helping others to help themselves is far from new. It was exemplified in ancient times in the Chinese proverb from which we draw our name: “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”

There are three core principles in line with this philosophy that guide us in our work:

  • Poverty Reduction  – we intend to eradicate extreme poverty. Our programmes focus first on students from low-income  families and marginalised communities.
  • Education – we exist to educate. Educational goals supersede any other aims our programmes have.
  • Entrepreneurship – we foster entrepreneurship. Viewing enterprise as an effective means to economic prosperity, our schools work to provide students with the skills and inspiration they need to generate wealth for themselves and their communities.

Our Vision is a world free from poverty where all young people are able to reach their full potential in life.
